Sullivans Island in Pink

On a recent trip to Washington I visited the National Gallery and filled up with vibrant original art.  There is nothing like  viewing art as the artist left it for the world to see. Paul Klee was my big take away and came home with his book influenced from his travels to Tunisia.  This painting is much bigger than my usual plein air canvas.  20x28   It was so fun to paint with my plein air friends of many years.  sold  

Settling

for now I want to keep .... 

Im not sure why I have grown fond of this painting, but I think it is because the water color settled into its pure properties.    I basically play with water color, I don't follow rules ( like I do in oils)  and it allows me the freedom to relax into what ever happens.   

Gift Day! One painting is going to a friend who is turning the big 50 and the other is a friend who I appreciate for her passion for art and giving! I feel so lucky I can do my gift shopping in my studio!

These figures were inspired by the one of Picasso's pottery pieces( blue and white theme)  from the amazing show at the MOMA.

Had a great time with a good friend and art enthusiast at my studio today.   These were her final selections , I love seeing what she chose for her art collection.  We both liked how this series captured a tribal feeling with less detail and more movement.   The top one especially lets the viewer fill in the body shapes.

Working with oils for gesture poses is more challenging for me than ink and graphic.  I usually touch the canvas up when I get back to the studio.  In this case I pulled out the orange tube and added some touches of white paint.  It feels musical to me.

On Instagram ( by the way for those of you on instagram find me @annespaintings)  I have a  friend who has challenged other artist to show how we are inspired.  We can all learn from others.   So my first inspiration to share is this rug love the warm earth tones.  

Thursday Figure Group

Many are interested in the "figure group".    Here a few fun facts about us...  we have met on Thursdays for about 15 or so years.   We have had many  locations and they are all usually  small and fit our needs for that time.  Our models are professional and fun at the same time.  Our poses start with one minute for 10 poses break and continue like that for about an hour.   Then we break and talk about ...what we just drew, painted, art, family, something inspiring! We then work up to two minute and lastly five to 10 minutes.   I go with a process in mind ( big, small, ink, oil , water color.... whatever.)  Its a time to experiment with out distractions 1-4 goes by fast and at the end we are all pretty tired.   

Lapis Surrounds Me

"Lapis is the color blue with golden pyrites" I was gifted a beautiful bracelet from a friend yesterday. It has many colorful stones that has meaning about our emotions. One of the stones is lapis.  Lapis brings clarity and wisdom and attracts love.   I thought yes! That is what sounds good for today.
